Another Semester Hits the Fan

Welcome to the blog, ARIL 360 class of Fall 2012! This blog will function as the digital workbook for "Motion, Lighting, Texture, Mapping" this fall, please join and share your work. I am especially looking forward to work in progress, and of course links to related content you like to share!

Please remember to always label your posts with you name, and to add all other applicable labels - preferably re-using ones from the list.

Round Five

Please join me in welcoming to this blog the students who are taking ARIL 360 this fall! Expect to see some high quality renders posted here soon!

Some instructions for the people joining us: please be sure to label (tag) your posts with (at least) your name. If it is the result of an assignment, also use that as a label. Try and reuse existing labels as much as possible, the list has grown quite a bit over the years.

Next to work in progress and the results of the assignments, you can post (links to) interesting piece of animation, tutorials and other class related stuff. All the students who have taken this class in the last two years are still members of the blog, you may get some unexpected feedback…

Did I mention I would like everybody to tag (a.k.a. label) your post with your name and some other useful tags / labels? I did last year... Using the "Show all" feature helps with consistency.

Fall 2009: ARIL 360

This blog is now entering its second year with the return of ARIL 360: MOTION, LIGHT, TEXTURE, MAPPING. I would like to welcome to this blog annex digital workbook the students taking this class with me this fall. Looking forward to seeing your brilliant renders!

Same blog, different course

And we're back. I changed this blog a bit, so it can now be used for the current course: ARIL-421: Advanced Animation and Illustration Arts. Next fall we can again use it for ARIL-360: Motion, Light, Texture, Mapping. I wanted to change the address from aril360 to just aril, but that was taken by an utterly useless blog from 2003

So, welcome ARIL-421 students! Even though most of you were already here as ARIL-360 students last fall :)

And let me take this opportunity to point you all to a great resource (thanx BoingBoing!).The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) has put its archive online, including the work by Ryan Larking, the Ryan about whom Chris Landreth created the animation Ryan, also at the NFB but for some reason not included in the on-line archive.

Nagging 'bout Tagging

If all post to this blog have the name of their author as one of the tags (called "Labels" in Blogger), it should be easy to view everything this artist wrote on one page!

As for the image: my WIP (Work in Progress) has not progressed as much as I had hoped, but I did do a lot of work on our house.

Welcome

Next weekend is Labor Day weekend, so summer's almost gone. It is a bit of an experiment, but I want the students who are taking ARIL 360 at Montclair State University this fall to use this blog as a digital workbook. I hope we will see a lot of visual research and rendered images in various stages of completion. Work is progress is welcome! I also hope to see fruitful conversations being started, using the commenting functionality.

So why am I writing the first post before the semester has even started? Two of my students aleready joined this blog as authors, and of course I want to have the first word!
