I was looking for a very basic little video about Maya blend shapes, and this lovely Southern gentleman posted something that was simple and very easy to follow. Plus he actually tells you what menus you need to click on to do stuff!
His accent just adds to the greatness. It's a very simple video, but definitely something worth looking at if you want to animate some blend shapes for facial expressions, etc.

Point Animation
After the family left I found an hour or so to play with Maya, and found out it is actually possible to animate every single point on a Mesh individually. I tried it on a polygonal sphere, messed a bit with the shader and rendered it using Mental Ray. No Bones, deformers or blend shapes!

Scrunchy Face!!!
I found Osipa's second edition....okay I had to buy a new one, and frankly I never really read it:( after ripping it open I found a reversal of the first addition, starting with the target emotion and ripping the blendshapes from it! such a good book.
oh and this is cool right:
from this I will create 10 blendshapes! brilliant!
