"The Girl and The Fox"

Hey everyone, Drew here. I hope your holidays were wonderful. Just stopping by to deliver some news from the south. Below is a link to one of my favorite student films from SCADanimate, a festival that showcases animations by SCAD students.

The name of the film is "The Girl and the Fox" directed by Tyler J. Kupferer, also the creator of film "Duck Heart Teslacoil." The latter is already out, and the first will make its arrival come next summer. Til then, enjoy this trailer!

Sending a postcard home:

I thought, since I made my own blog that I would post my progress there. So here is a link to it for anyone interested in looking at what I'm up to.

I'm also thinking about developing painting tutorials, so any of you folks who do digital painting may like what you see. Because obviously I'm an expert...right...

There'll be stuff at least. Whatever I can find....

...So there. Now you can know where I'm at. You been told.

See ya. :)

For Inspiration:

I just thought it would be useful to see these. Gobelins, for the most part. Yes, yes they are traditional 2-d animations, but heck, they're better than a lot of the 3-d nonsense out there.

The link for Youtube

The list of the animations:

Monstera Deliciosa - beautiful and clever.

Le lac gele - cool

Fenrir - Fantastic!! -my favorite, style-wise

Dodudindon- Hilariously good-my favorite concept/story

Jelly Sunday - did I watch this yet?...

There are a few animations I recall now that incorporate both, which is cool and I believe you could do later on (or now....maybe) in 3-d.

Apres La Pluie- "After the Rain"

La Main des Maitres- .......actually, this one is mostly 3-D in 2-D's clothing with some stills (which honestly don't convince me, but they work).

There's more out there. Look on the Gobelins site from time to time. Also, Supinfocom and youtube in general are great places to check.

When I can focus better, I'll be sure to keep you all posted (haha pun).

Drew Tip of The Day

Tip: Holding the ALT or OPTION key while already dragging an object, such as a null or bone will allow you to snap it to the location of another object. I assume this means the origins are snapping, so I would check pivots just in case. I also do not believe it aligns the origin to the snap target, which presents both benefits and drawbacks.

Work fast and prosper.

Animations of awesome.

So I checked out the Gobelins School site. Here are some of their other animations I've been looking at. Whether or not you've seen them before...

The Omen -Just fabulous.

Garuda - A boy sees the legendary bird and chases after it.

Wild Casting - Lion on the loose. Enough said.

Supertromp -Indian boy and an elephant that runs on gas.

La Ballade Sauvage -This one is sweet in a good way.

Keep Walking - This one is pretty smart.

Nano - Little mining creatures surprise you.

These students are AMAZING.

There are tons more from this site. Do yourselves a favor and look them over.

I'll post more stuff later when I see it. Oktapodi is great by the way. I died when I saw The Omen.

Voodoo...

Back to watching fun things.

More Kitchen

Here's another one.

Almost forgot! Here's the link for the sketch tutorial for anyone interested. I looked at what other people did with this tutorial and I was really impressed. The effects range from clay to speedpaint to colored pencil. Good stuff.

Procrastination Builds a Nation.

One road. One street

Pebbles and water catching on a rough walkway.

My ever-dying retaining wall.

I know I should have done this a while back. Here are some pictures I took during the rain a month ago. The clouds helped to even out the lighting. Okay, back to work.

Fun with Kitchens!

So I did some stuff with the kitchen. Of course I started playing with edges. I tried using the node editor for every surface. Trying to get inspiration for how to render my final project. I also used a tutorial to make a fancy floor (nothing fancy technically speaking).

The rendering took an unreasonable amount of time. The second above took about 2.5 hours.

O_o.

I think it was the amount of shaders I had. I'm not really sure. I need to figure a way around that. I'll see if I can do some less intensive renders for later, but alas, my midterm is draws ever closer....so why am I still here?

Give It An Edge.

I tried out a sketch tutorial I found online. It wasn't that difficult. Just using animated deformations to cause the edges to be squiggly. I really should be working on other projects...

Animaciones

Almost forgot. Here are a few of the animations that I've been looking at for inspiration and entertainment. Really good stuff. Makes me jealous.

Riba

Le Prince Bleu

En Tus Brazos

The Way

Kiwi!

Peas and Carrots

There were more, but they escape my memory. Enjoy!

Now about that sketch motion.....

Black/White Renderings!

Here's my stuff for the BW assignment. Didn't turn out like I hoped it would have (meaning I didn't spend the time I should have).

Number First: Mid Morning. A bit too low range, everything is the same shade of grey.

Moving on...

Number second: Night with dim bulb. I liked how this one came out, as far a range goes. Tried to fix shadow problem without changing lighting positions. Didn't go to well. I have no idea what is up with that bottle....

Number Third. UFO Invasion. This was just for fun. Warning to all: Volumetrics + Transparency + Reflection + Anti = a very long wait.

Critique is welcome. Useful tips are even more welcome. See you guys tomorrow!

Is this thing on?

Then I get to be second!
