This image is starting to look better. However, by adding the fog in photoshop you do not get a depth fog effect: the floor plane does not fade into the fog. If it did it may blend more with the background image.
You may be getting yourself into trouble relying so heavily on that background image. It works for this one shot, this camera angle, but will not be appropriate for your other shots. You should consider using the image as a reference, a visual goal, and try to reproduce the effect in Maya.
Adding environment for in Maya is relatively easy (see for instance this tutorial). It needs to be added when Maya is selected as renderer, but the fog node will be honoured (rendered that is) in Mental Ray.
