Darth Mickey
Maybe it was due to Sandy, but I had missed this: Disney is Buying Lucas Film, which includes Industrial Light and Magic (ILM). I generally am not a fan of industry consolidation, but this one specifically worries me. Not because I fear a Disneyfied Star Wars, but because when I saw Rango I was happy that at least one big animation studio was approaching feature animation in a different way, not using the now the default PIXAR approach. Hopefully there will be a place for ILM Feature Animation now that they are under the same parent company as PIXAR, but it would surprise me. Currently, they have no feature animation in production.

Destiny
Yet another well made and very entertaining student animation from France. The fact that throwing a cat under the bus was even considered as a possible ending indicates a lack of deeper meaning, but in that this animation can hardly be considered unique.

The Origin of Modern Animation?
This article in the Guardian on the Beatles movie "Yellow Submarine" makes a credible argument for considering that animation as pivotal in the history of this Art form, as being the first "mature" animation (not "adult" in the common sense). In the mainstream at least.

Something old, something new.
Being a bit under he weather I was browsing the NFB site and found a high quality version of this classic animation. Always a pleasure!
Here are two more recent works from a series:

Andy Gilbert

This image in by Andy Gilbert, 3-D artist based in New York. I don't really know much about him because his website doesn't offer up too much info besides his portfolio reel and images but these are amazing. I have a whole new appreciation for the lighting and texturing in this scene. Wow.

Final Project- 3D texture/lighting
1st two scenes- Morning Light
3nd and 4th scene- Midday
5th and 6th scene- Evening (with light source from street lamps)
Here are my six sketches for what I want to do for the final in this class. I decided to re-texture my animation from the previous semester (hopefully using the new toon texturing technique we learned) with each scene lit at different points in the day to add some variety.
Enjoy and see you all tomorrow!
