After beating recently Heavy Rain I've been curious about facial animations. L.A. Noire, an upcoming game from Rockstar (the GTA folks) is doing some swell things in that regard. It's almost creepy.

This blog contains the digital workbooks of students at Montclair State University. In fall, it was dedicated to "ARIL-360: Motion, Light, Texture, Mapping", and in spring to "ARIL-421: Advanced Animation and Illustartion Arts".
I have since moved on to Monmouth University, where my students post to this blog

Impressive technology. I wonder how they transfer that captured face volume onto an animatable mesh for the game (they mention compression, not sure what they mean there). We are not just talking cut scenes here, right?
As animators, should you not be afraid this performance capture stuff will eat your job?
I know that interrogation and being able to read characters' faces will be an important part of the game. It isn't just limited to cut scenes.
And yes, the likelihood of getting a job even remotely related to animation is slim. At least I have a few more years of school before I have to face that harsh reality!
You're a smart woman, you'll figure it out. Just don't be lazy like our colleagues in class. They know who I'm talking about.
